Could teams be saved from the drop again?

AT the end of last season both Mullaghbawn and Killeavey were relegated but were reinstalled into the top flight when St Patrick's and Killeavey entered second teams into the county's fourth division.

Meanwhile talk of a further realignment is growing in some quarters. It has been rumoured that both Pearse g and Dromintee may apply to put second strings into the fourth division, a scenario which could reinstate the relegated teams who are faced with the drop from the first division yet again.

Some clubs are suggesting that the All County ‘B’ League was not a success in 2010 and may not be finished, and the notion that some clubs could opt for a division four side, rather than a ‘B’ team, could well be a starter.

So could Mullaghbawn and Killeavey be saved for another season?

In the second division St Peter’s draw against Keady, despite being commendable, will not be enough to save the North Street side from the drop. The Whites needed full points from their remaining games.

In division three ire g are still not out of the woods.

They went down narrowly to Junior finalists Tullysaran last weekend but would need more points from their remaining games.

In last Saturday’s Senior Championship quarter-final, despite putting in a battling performance against St. Pat’s Cullyhanna, Maghery went out 1-9 to 0-9 and missed several clear cut opportunities.

Without both Aidan and Stefan Forker, Maghery failed to recover from an early Cullyhanna goal but showed great determination in treacherous conditions.

Cullyhanna will now meet Crossmaglen in this Sunday’s Senior Championship semi-final.
