Coleraine top Premier League with victory

Coleraine are top of the Premier League after they made it two wins from two with a seven wicket success over Bready.

The toss was won by Bready, who decided to bat - David Barr, with the last ball of the first over, was adjudged lbw to Graeme McCarter, his first league wicket for Coleraine.

Bready were however, able to regroup, as Andrew Austin (32) and David Rankin (52) steadied themselves and their innings with an 83 run partnership, taking them to the 17th over before the Coleraine captain Scott Campbell came into the bowling attack. This resulted in the timely wicket of Rankin, who had reached 50 with a couple of sixes as he had started to get into his dangerous stride, as he was bowled by Campbell. then professional Michael Loubser was duly dismissed as Loubser’s middle stump was removed in an impassioned piece of bowling by Gordon Cooke.

The target of 146 would still be a tricky one to attain, with the conditions still no better after tea, with the result that Coleraine opener Niall McDonnell lost his wicket with the score on 10. Campbell however, was joined by Coleraine professional and Vice-captain Kyllin Vardhan (39) and they played positively, taking on the Bready bowlers with confidence in a partnership of 60 runs.

Campbell played to the end, unbeaten on 63 not out, with both Tim and Rishi Chopra, the latter finishing not out on 24, as Coleraine won the game by 7 wickets in just 29 overs.
