Fourths slip to first away defeat

The fourths lost their first away fixture of the season to Ardmore 3rd XI.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field. However they bowled poorly from the outset giving the hosts easy runs especially in the wides column.

Only two bowlers were to stand out in the performance with Matt Jess and Matthew McCook holding their heads high. Much of the bowling was too short allowing the batsmen to feed on a short boundary on one side of the field. Ardmore eventually finished on 223 for 6 off their forty overs.

Coleraine would have to bat exceptionally well to run down the total and they can take great heart from a polished batting performance from this young side.

Two batsmen not yet in their teens were to stand out, Marcus Poskitt and Matthew Hutchinson and they were ably supported by their teenage team mates Callum Smith, Scott Torrens, and Matthew McCook. Coleraine managed to reach 185 for 6 in their forty overs and must rue the runs they gifted to the opposition in the first innings.

Captain Michael Bullock said: “There are some good things to take from this but we will have to learn to win from the start of a game.”
