Howzat: new book on Foyle College

Coleraine author Billy Platt’s History of Cricket at Foyle College (including Londonderry Academical Institution and Londonderry College) 1863-2014 has confirmed that the book will be publishedearly next month.

Only 100 copies of the book will be printed.

This is Billy’s 20th book since he became an author in 1969.

It containss over 50 photographs with everyone identified and is a fascinating account of cricket at Foyle down the years.

It also records the outstanding performances of many Foyle pupils and their opponents who went on to play the sport throughout Northern Ireland at both club and country level.

Locally, matches against Coleraine Academical Institution are recorded and Billy says there are a couple of photographs of Inst included from away back in the 1930s.

“I think anyone who is interested in cricket in the north west will find something in the book.” Billy said.

“There’s a lot of information on Foyle’s matches, scorecards and photographs from down the years.

“Already 70 copies of the boom have been accounted for so anyone who wants to get one should contact me as soon as possible.”

Proceeds from the non-profit book will be donated to charity.

Again Billy has chosen the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS) to benefit form the sales.

The final proofs of the book are underway and the volume will be published by Coleraine Printing Company.
