James stars with knock of 112

Lurgan Seconds scored an impressive 8 wicket over Ballymena at Pollock Park on Saturday with James McCollum the star of the show.

The town side lost the toss and were asked to bowl and Ballymena got off to a solid start and were building a solid base up until the 19th over when Peter Maxwell made the breakthrough with the score on 71.

Once the opening partnership between Colgan and Montgomery was broken, wickets began to fall at regular intervals with Maxwell and Bingham doing most of the damage. Ballymena were bowled out for 182 in the 39th over. Andrew Bingham took 4 for 28, Peter Maxwell 3 for 19 and Jonny Hunter 2 for 34.

Lurgan set about getting the required runs through openers James McCollum and Neil Kilpatrick. In just 9 overs they had brought up their 50 partnership. They had moved the score to 131 in the 25th over when Kilpatrick was dismissed for 37. With McCollum at the crease however, Lurgan never looked like losing and the young batsman went on to make a superb chance free 112 from 96 balls before being dismissed in the 30th over with the score on 169. Peter Maxwell (3no) and Peter Haire (10no) saw Lurgan over the line in the 32nd over.
