Lisburn U13s lose narrowly in Banogue Cup

For the second year in a row, Lisburn’s talented U13 cricket team fell agonisingly short in the main NCU cup final for this age group, when they were narrowly defeated in the Banogue Cup Final.

Favourites Instonians won the toss and batted and Lisburn’s bowlers were quickly on top with Michael Glass taking the key wicket of Oliver Metcalfe for 13.

It was only when James Hunter (46) started to attack that Instonians gained momentum and they ended up on 119 for 4 in their 20 overs.

Lisburn’s in-form openers Michael Glass and Nathan Doak made a confident start and the team looked on course for a famous win until Nathan (10) was run out.

Instonians managed to restrict Lisburn’s scoring mainly through some impressive fielding.

Cameron Doak (6) and Oliver Patterson (8) were both going well before they were also run out.

Michael (72 not out) hit two sixes off the first two balls of the last over to suddenly lift Lisburn to within striking distance but they fell 7 runs short.

The game was played in a fantastic spirit by both sides and the considerable support from Lisburn applauded the local boys off the pitch.

The team will now turn their attention to securing their spot in the league final, almost certainly against the same opposition.

U13s on track for League Final

Lisburn CC U13s got back to winning ways by beating Inst Bs by 30 runs at Wallace Park.

Put in to bat, Lisburn were in trouble with both star batsmen Michael Glass (9) and Nathan Doak (29) out.

Jude Postlethwaite (15) steadied the innings but the two heroes were Jack Dillon (29 not out) and Oliver Patterson (19 not out) who both played outstandingly well to guide Lisburn to a solid 127 for 3.

Jack and Oliver played shots all round the wicket but were particularly impressive in their running between the wickets as they turned 1s into 2s and 2s into 3s.

Lisburn’s bowlers were unable to get an early breakthrough but they managed to restrict Inst’s scoring rate.

Zach Croskery and Nathan Doak were the pick of the bowlers and Cameron Doak also bowled very well as Inst tried, in vain, to accelerate.

Inst finished on 97 for 7 falling 30 runs short. Lisburn remain in second place and on course for a repeat of the cup final against Inst As.
