Seconds remain unbeaten

Lurgan Seconds remain unbeaten in league and cup games after they beat Academy by 8 wickets on Saturday in a league encounter.

Callum Grieve and Jack Harrison spearheaded the Lurgan attack with Callum’s first 4 overs conceding only 3 runs. Jack Harrison picked up a wicket in his first over but there was to be no further joy for the Lurgan bowlers until the total reached 117 as Academy’s Kelso (53) and Collins (62) batted the home team into a strong position. Callum Grieve removed Kelso and this lead to a batting collapse as Academy crumbled from 117 for 1 to 161 all out. Graeme Hunter took 5 for 34 off 7 overs while Callum Grieve had 2 for 27 off 8, Jack Harrison 1 for 22 off 4 and Bill Walter 1 for 24 off 4.
In reply, Graeme Hunter and Jack Harrison got the visitors off to a flying start putting on 68 for the first wicket in 10 overs. Following Harrison’s dismissal, Neil Anderson hit an impressive 56 not out as the Seconds cruised home with 8 wickets in hand. Graeme Hunter fell just two short of his half century on 48. Andrew Bingham’s team play CSNI Thirds next.

Victoria Thirds made the trip to Academy Fourths on Saturday for the Minor Qualifying Cup match but lost by 43 runs.
