T20 CRICKET: Larne Buccaneers record five-wicket over Grosvenor

Larne Buccaneers began their Twenty20 season with an exciting five-wicket victory over Grosvenor.

The visitors batted first at Sandy Bay and they were in trouble early on. Opening bowler Charlie Cloke was in fine form as he took 3-19 during a fiery opening spell.

Ken McKinley and Mike Lyle provided good support as they returned identical figures of 2-18 as Larne dismissed their opponents for just 88.

Andy Steward took a great catch and was the pick of the fielders, with the home side also managing to run out two Grosvenor batsmen during a good fielding performance.

In reply, Larne made a terrible start with Chris Lough, Aaron McKinley and Neil Campbell all falling quickly.

Cloke, however, showed his skills with the bat as he revived the innings with a fine 30, including three boundaries.

His departure left the young Buccaneers in trouble as they still required 38 from the last 36 deliveries of the match.

Scott Wetherhead and BJ McFaul then combined to produce a splendid match-winning partnership. Wetherhead led the way with a run a ball innings of 24 including two fours.

At the other end McFaul scored equally quickly to stay up with the required rate. The pair ran superbly between the wickets and timed the run-chase perfectly.

Larne required five from the final over and they reached their target with just three balls to spare to record a morale-boosting win.
