Victory for Tigers

LURGAN’S U15s travelled to Wallace Park in Lisburn last Friday and came away victorious by seven wickets.

Lisburn batted first and the Lightbody brothers added 69 for the first wicket before Matthew was bowled by Callum Gibson for 28.

The very next ball, Gibson struck again, bowling Hylands for a duck. However, that was to be the last success for Lurgan as Ross Lightbody and Aaron McKeown took the score to 120 at the end of 20 overs with Lightbody undefeated on 53 and McKeown 24.

Best bowlers for Lurgan were Callum Gibson with two for 12 from his four overs and Neil Allen with 0-14 from his four overs.

Lurgan needed to get a good start in pursuit of this challenging total and they did just that with openers Neil Kilpatrick and Jamie Hunter adding 44 in the first four overs.

Kilpatrick fell for 16 at the start of the fifth over, but Hunter continued the onslaught scoring 40 from just 16 balls, including six fours and two sixes (one of which cleared the pavilion and landed in the tennis courts behind).

When he was out in the seventh over the score stood at 63 and Lurgan were over halfway to their victory target.

However, there was still some work to be done and NCU U13 players Callum Gibson and Jonathan Hunter did just that.

They took the score up to 110 before Gibson was caught behind for a well played 31. Jonathan Hunter and Jack Hutchinson saw Lurgan home to a seven wicket victory with an over to spare and Hunter remained undefeated on 17, with Hutchinson on five.

Whilst Lurgan’s bowling and fielding needs to be improved slightly, this was a superb batting performance which sets them up well for their remaining league matches.
