Waringstown stars hit heights for the Knights

Waringstown’s first eleven may not have taken the field for a competitive match this season yet, but at least four of their players have been making an impression for the Northern Knights.

Phil Eaglestone, Gary Kidd, Greg Thompson and captain Lee Nelson played in both interprovincial matches for the Knights over the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Friday night the Knights started their Twenty20 campaign with a dramatic match against Leinster Lightning with Kidd making a big impression despite a five-run defeat.

The left-arm spinner took two for 17 in his four overs as the Lightning were restricted to 144 for seven batting first.

The Knights looked on course to stroll to victory as they raced to 72 without loss.

But they collapsed spectacularly and only Kidd’s unbeaten 19 from 18 balls got them close.

Eaglestone and Kidd were to the fore in the crushing win over North West Warriors at Stormont on Monday.

Left-arm seamer Eaglestone claimed three for 20 including the prize scalps of David Rankin and Andrew McBrine.

Kidd went even better, dismissing Ireland’s Stuart Thompson on his way to taking four for 26.
