Dalriada Senior hockey teams start with two good wins.

On Saturday Dalriada 1st XI played Armagh Royal in a friendly fixture at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

The game was played at an exciting pace with Dalriada dominating possession in the first half. Dalriada were first on the score sheet with a powerful run from Katie Mullan who weaved through numerous defenders to slot the ball into the net. Armagh fought back in the second half and found the equaliser through capitalising on an error by the Dalriada defence. However, it was Dalriada who finished the stronger team with Rebecca Webb scoring a terrific goal from a well placed pass by Lynn Macauley. Dalriada deservedly won the game 2-1 and would like to thank Mrs Cleland for coaching and Mrs Nikki Parke for umpiring.

Dalriada 2nd X1 hockey team played their first friendly of the year also against Royal School Armagh. It was a closely fought match, with the final score being 1-0 to Dalriada. The match started at a fast pace and early possession was evenly shared between both sides.

Midfielders Hollie Fleming, Sophie Sterne and Stephanie Calderwood demonstrated some very skilful play, pushing Dalriada up field. With half time approaching, Sarah Boyles connected with a through ball to give Dalriada the lead. Armagh started the second half with a sense of urgency, creating various chances at goal. The Dalriada defence stood firm, with Priya Kher and Emma Millar making crucial tackles. Dalriada continued to push forward on the right hand side of the pitch, with Emma Johnston and Diane Ramsey working well together. Both teams displayed very strong phases of play, but despite many great attacks and scoring opportunities, Dalriada could not manage to find the back of the net in the second half. This left the final score 1-0 to Dalriada, who were delighted with the result against a well-respected opposition. The team would like to thank all coaches, especially Mrs Ruddock.
