As defending champions they are expected to meet Karl Crawford and Andrew Fenner in the final.

When the pair met in last season’s competition it was the highly fancied top seeds who came through in three sets after winning the first 21-19.

Last year Turkington and Watt, who was recently appointed CEO of the sport’s governing body Badminton Ireland, were taken to 21-19 in the decider after 45 minutes.

Recently appointed Alpha President Graham Hamilton and Mark Topping will be hoping to spoil the party and are seeded No3, having been runner-up in the final of the Over 35 Mens Doubles last year.

Mark Topping tops the seeds in the Over 40 Mixed Doubles , partnering Dorothy McCullough and would be due to meet Willie Stevenson and Sylvia Campion in the final.

Bidding to capture the Mens Doubles Over 55 and the Mixed Doubles Over 50 will be Eugene McKenna, father of two-times world para champion Niall
