Derby tie to tempt the fans

The Clans bounced back from their opening defeat against St. Paul’s to comfortably beat Wolfe Tones last weekend, and St. Peter’s who looked destined for victory last time out but were caught in the dying stages against Grange.

While the Senior series has become a bit mundane, the Intermediate Championship is highly competitive with seven or eight of the sides left in the competition capable of winning it.

This weekends derby is enthralling, the midfield battle should be interesting, Aaron Findon could be joined by Ryan Kelly and it would be expected that Ronan Austin and Chris Taylor who both stood out for the Blues last weekend will form the Clans midfield pairing

With the game being played on a Sunday it is expected Niall Henderson will line out for the Clans, while midfielder Sean Mackle would also be expected to be selected for the Blues. Depending on how St. Peter’s have weathered their disappointment they could have a major say on Sunday.

The Whites, considering the current form of Stefan Campbell, should start as underdogs but the Freecrow side have in Niall McConville in particular a player capable of turning the game in his sides favour.

Although neither St. Peter’s or Clan na Gael could be described as being defensive, this all or nothing encounter may be a one off where traditional attacking values are shelved, it will be interesting to see which St. Peter’s player picks- up Stefan Campbell, while Whites full back Sean O’Neill is a classy defender.
