Deserved wins for Ballymoney Hockey Firsts and Thirds

Keeper Jodie Shannon successfully cleared the visitors shot on goal and Ballymoney picked up the pace of play. Queens continued to pile on the pressure, however an experienced Ballymoney defence kept the score sheet empty. The Rams continued to battle it out in the cold weather for the remaining of the first half. The second half started intensely with the Toon unlucky not to convert a penalty corner in the first few minutes. Queens defended well with a reverse shot from Bridget being deflected wide. 12 minutes into the second half Rachel Minihan put the in form Ballymoney side in front, with a straight strike from a penalty corner.

A series of penalty corners for Queens put the pressure on the Toon defence but were unable to convert their chances. The final whistle blew and the score remained 1-0 to the Ballymoney girls.

THIRD XI

Ballymoney ThirdXI progressed to the semi final of the Ulster Junior Cup with a win over Rainey Second XI.

Ballymoney dominated for much of the first half, shots went wide from Sarah Holden and Olivia Linton. Ballymoney were awarded a short corner and again the shot went wide.

After half time, the girls were determined to grab a goal.

Pressure through Charlotte Campbell and Lauren Henry resulted in a series of penalty corners before Judith McCracken found the bottom corner of the net in the second penalty corner putting Ballymoney to go 1-0 up.

A bad tackle on Sarah Holden saw Rainey reduced to ten, however Ballymoney failed to capitalise on this and the game ended 1-0.
