Dromore’s win was the special feature of season

Dromore

Had a good season, winning NIBA Division 2 and having a good run in both the IBA Senior Cup and the NIBA Senior Cup.

They lost to Lisnagarvey in the latter competition at the semi-final stage.

The B team finished near the top of NIBA Division 5 and may have done better if home performances had been more successful.

Finaghy

They really enjoyed a very competitive season in NIBA Division 4 and managed to stave off relegation.

This was unquestionably the most keenly contested division in NIBA circles and Finaghy took the right attitude in simply enjoying the bowling.

Hilden

Just avoided relegation from Private Greens Division 1, which was a positive step, but they may have hoped to do better.

They were unfortunate to lose narrowly in the IBA Intermediate Cup quarter final to eventual winners, Sydenham and again hosted a successful Open Rinks Tournament.

The B team did well in Private Greens Division 5 and finished in the to half-dozen.

Lagan Valley

Narrowly avoided relegation from NIBA Division 5 with a last match win at Dromore B, but a couple of walkovers saw them reach the quarter finals of the IBA Junior Cup.

They had a good home record, but will have to learn how to play as well “on the road”.

Lisnagarvey

At the start of the season Lisnagarvey lost quite a few players, but they still managed to do pretty well, avoiding relegation with a fair amount of ease in NIBA Division 1.

They lost in the final of the NIBA Senior Cup to Whitehead and were unfortunate to draw Larne away in the early rounds of the IBA Senior Cup.

The B team suffered from the loss of senior players and, having been promoted to NIBA Division 3 in the previous season, found life too hard and were relegated.

Malone

Relegated from Private Greens Division 4, which was a tough section following re-organisation in the close season, Malone managed to stay above Belfast at the bottom.

They will continue to enjoy it in Division 5 next season.

Garvey’s ranking list

The end-of-season ranking list at Lisnagarvey shows that Neil Mulholland just pipped Stephen Irwin to top spot on shot difference and Pat Hughes finished third, though level with Noel Graham and Scott Jess on points.
