The two clubs have become sister clubs over the past 12 months as Eagles are 18 months old and Starbreakers are a well established club in Ulster circles.

The two clubs have become very close over the recent games with each competing at Area and Regional Games together. Eagles and Starbreakers both picked up 16 medals each in the recent Ulster Championships making them the two most successful clubs in Ulster athletics this year. A real testament to the athletes, Coaching staff and Volunteers.

Friday night was all about celebrating that success and each athlete received a certificate and commemorative plaque marking their own particular achievement before an array of fun awards were announced. The categories included Biggest Poser, Irelands Next Top Model and Dancing King and Queen. Clubs chairs Austin O Neill and Rosemary Fox praised the hard work and effort made by all the club members in reaching such highs in 2013 and encouraged the athletes to continue to strive to reach their goals and overcome and hurdles that prevent them from doing just that. Starbreakers SO Club made a presentation to club Coach Paul Sweeney while Jackie and Danny O Hagan presented a massive cheque to Eagles for £2000 from a Bumper Quiz Night held recently in Gribbens Bar, Killeshall. Shane Mallon from the bar was in attendance as was Oliver O Neill who organised the Charity Football Match in recent weeks.

The athletes then danced away to the wee small hours to DJ Sean and look forward to the rest of the summer break before the training begins for the new season in late August.

Congratulations to ALL the winners on Friday night and a major thank you to Paudge, Carmel and Kerrie plus all the staff at Quinns for a fantastic meal and wonderful surroundings for this momentous event.

Here’s to much more success for these two clubs and many more big Days and Nights out.
