East Coast’s Hewitt claims top six finish in 40-mile race

East Coast’s Matthew Hewitt ran Saturday’s 26extreme Causeway Coast 40-mile in 6:14:19, securing sixth place.

In the marathon event Mark McManus finished in a time of 3:54:36 to claim an impressive fifth-place finish.

Nine East Coast AC members ran the half-marathon, with Dan Spencer leading the way for the club in 15th (1:42:47). Drew Girvin timed 2:06:06 (97th) while Phil Smyth completed the event in 2:09:18 (111th).

Other times: Nigel Taylor (180th, 2:19:28); Nikki McNeill (229th, 2:27:46); Kelly Deller 2:37:31 (297th) Marty McToal (300th, 2:38:29); Chris Davis (301st) 2:38:31; Heather Shaw (379th, 3:27:30).

In the final 10k, Murray Deller finished 12th in 45:52. Philip Greer clocked 57:23 (58th) while Karl Joyce took 66th (59:31). Catherine Maxwell and Rowena Davis ran in a time of 1:02:04 (84th and 85th place). Julianne Greer timed1:15:57 (157th), followed by Rosie Kerr (194th, 1:27:23).

Bangor 10k

At Saturday’s Bangor 10K Paula Cosgrove finished in a time of 55:09 to secure 89th in the ladies’ category. Daniel Girvin had to pull out of the race after feeling unwell.

Corey Urwin and Gary McKeegan took on the Wasdale Half Ironman in the Lake District on Sunday. No finish times are available at the time of going to press.

Larne parkrun

Junior stars and brothers, Matthew McIlroy and Callum McIlroy put in the performances of the day, with the duo just seconds apart through the tough 5k course. After a fast finish down the long path towards the Dixon Hall, it was Matthew who crossed the line first in 22:26 (5th place), with Callum following in 22:28 (6th place).

The in-form Paul Clements got just rewards for his hard work over the past few weeks, with a new personal best of 22:56 for the course, finishing in 11th place. There were also personal bests for Conor Sheridan 23:50 (14th); Brian Maltman 24:27 (18th); Harry Plumb 24:48 (21st).

Fun Day

The Club held it’s annual Family Fun Day in the Town Park in Larne on Sunday. The day’s events included junior running races and duathlons as well as an adult 800m race. The day was a huge success and the Club would like to thank all members who volunteered and offered their services.
