Entries sought for Liam Ball Triathlon

THE NORTH-WEST Triathlon Club have announced that entries are now open for the long-standing Liam Ball Triathlon which is now incorporated in the North-West Sprint Race.

The club is also hosting the Irish Duathlon Championships again this year in Burnfoot on Sunday, April 3rd, with an added bonus for competitors as this race is a selection race for the 2012 Irish Duathlon team.

There will be two races this year. The usual standard distance race of 10k run/40k bike /5k run (National Championships), which will have a two person relay section, and a shorter race of 3k run/16k bike/2k run for novices and juniors.

Entries can be made online on Triathlon Ireland’s website at www.triathlonireland.com. Limited entries will be taken during registration on Saturday, April 2nd (4.30pm – 6pm) and on race morning (7.30am – 9am). Registration will be held in the Aileach Valley Community Centre in Burnfoot.

NW Tri Club’s, Gary O’Donnell will be looking for a good run out before he competes at the European Duathlon Championships in Limerick two weeks later while Paul McConnellogue and Jarlath Fearon will also head the challenge in the Vets category.

Prices are £35 for the standard duathlon, £40 for two person relay teams (standard distance only), and £22 for the short duathlon race. Please note that you will need to purchase a One Day Licence (£5) to race unless you already are a full, junior or student TI member. The NW Sprint/Liam Ball Triathlon takes place at Templemore Sports Complex on Sunday, May 29th. The triathlon comprises of a 750m swim followed by a 20km bike and finishing with a 5km run.

With the race being a complete sell-out last year the club is expecting similar demand on entries this year. As the race incorporates a pool swim, places are limited so early entry is encouraged to avoid disappointment.

Again entries can be made online on Triathlon Ireland’s website. No entries will be taken on race day. Prices are £35 for Seniors and £30 for Juniors. One Day Licence rule also applies (€15/£15).
