Five goal Glebe Rangers Old Boys win local derby clash at Megaw Park

Glebe entertained Dunaghy on Saturday in a local derby clash at Megaw Park.

Glebe started strongly and had a couple of opportunities before Shepherd opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a tap in from a Greer cross.

Glebe extended their lead on 25 minutes when Shepherd headed in a great cross from Elder. Dunaghy to their credit never gave up and had a couple of chances through Blair and Ramsey with the latter rattling his effort of the Glebe’s crossbar. Just before halftime Glebe made it 3 nil when Elder fired into the net from the edge of the box to give them a comfortable lead.

The second half was 15 minutes old when Shepherd ran onto a great through ball from Holmes to score his third and Glebe’s fourth. On 75 minutes Dunaghy strung a good move together down their right hand side and the resulting cross was unfortunately diverted into his own net by a Glebe defender to make it 4 -1. Glebe’s fifth goal was the best of the game when Holmes struck a 25 yard shot over the Dunaghy keeper and into the corner of the net to make it Glebe 5-1. Manager Iam Bellingham commented: “This was a very pleasing performance. e’re starting to score goals and pass the ball really well.
