Arthur nets late winner as Gers sink Welders

Carrick fought back from two goals down to claim a dramatic 3-2 win against Harland and Wolff Welders on Tuesday night.

Graeme Arthur’s 90th-minute goal - his second in as many games - sent Rangers top of Championship 1 on goal difference ahead of Bangor.

It had all looked so different when two Josh Cahoon goals in the space of three minutes midway through the first-half had Rangers on the back foot at Inver Park.

But Conor McCloskey’s 58th-minute penalty gave Gary Haveron’s men the spark they needed, before Richard Gibson levelled matters when he found the bottom corner just after the hour-mark.

In the dying embers of the game, veteran striker Arthur, on as a sub for Daniel Kelly, headed a last-gasp winner to claim all three points.

Carrick Rangers: Steele, West, Donaghy, Lagan, O’Kane, McCloskey, Curran (McCann), Harmon, Roy, Kelly (Arthur), Gibson. Subs not used: McArdle, Taggart, Smyth.

HW Welders: Windrum, Beattie, McMurray, Simpson, Armstrong, Dickson, Deans, Davidson, Harris, Cahoon, Burrows. Subs: Cockroft, Magennis, Devine, Middleton, Spence.

Carrick now switch their attention to the sixth round of the Irish Cup and a trip to Ballyclare Comrades on Saturday (3 pm kick-off).
