Ballymacash Rangers start season in new league with a win

Ballymacash Rangers made the long journey to Fivemiletown last Saturday to play the towns ‘United’ football team and came away with a well deserved 3 points to secure their first victory in their return to the top flight of Mid Ulster League football.

Having secured promotion to Intermediate ‘A’ last season, by winning the League and adding the cup in for good measure, the locals knew they had to get off to a good start with what will be a challenging season for them, and it was 2 of their 4 new recruits that helped them to their opening goal after twenty minutes, when Paul Hull crossed for James Guiney to head home past the home keeper. Rangers dominated the game with some fine football at times without really peppering their opponents goal, but this domination into the 2nd half paid off when Campbell and Magee combined with the latter laying back to captain Cummins whose cross was headed into the goal at the backpost by, another debutant, Stephen Shanks.

With the home side down to 10 men, Rangers really should have made the scoreline more convincing, but it remained 2-0 to the visitors.
