The 31-year-old agreed a two year deal with the Lurgan Blues on Thursday evening and met his new team mates at training.

It is a massive coup for manager Gary Hamilton and the Lurgan Blues who beat Linfield to his signature.

Kevin, who left Portadown at the end of January after eight years at Shamrock Park, had moved to Austrialia where he played for Port Melbourne Sharks.

However, he returned home for personal reasons a few weeks ago and Glenavon were quick to make their move.

Details of Glenavon’s new signing were revealed at a press conference at Mourneview Park.

Manager Hamilton said, “It shows how far we have come when we can make a quality signing like Kevin Braniff. Not so long away we would never have been able to be in the market for a player like this. I’m thrilled and delighted Kevin has joined us. He could have gone to Linfield so for Glenavon to get him on board is fantastic for the club.”

Kevin can’t wait to get back into action and admitted only a few months ago he didn’t expect to be back in the Irish League.

“I am fit and can’t wait to get started,” said Kevin. “I have been very impressed how Glenavon have progressed under Gary Hamilton and with the players already added to the squad this season there is no reason why we can’t continue to improve.

“I enjoyed Australia but had to come home for personal reasons and now I am looking forward to the next two years here.”
