Brave effort from Fort Hill boys

THE Fort Hill College Year 8 Football Team recently lost the Under 12 Belfast Cup Final 3-1 to Our Lady and St Patrick’s (Knock) at Solitude.

The game was played in an excellent spirit and both sides played some tremendous football which was enjoyed by around 200 spectators made up of both pupils and parents from the respective schools.

Our Lady and St Patrick’s (OLSP) started the game the stronger side and struck their first goal, which was a header from a cross, after just five minutes. They continued to dominate and doubled their lead after 15 minutes when again they managed to cross the ball into the Fort Hill box and find an unmarked attacker to slot the ball home.

Fort Hill came back into the game 10 minutes from the half when a fantastic strike from Jordan Blackledge narrowly missed the top corner of the goal. Shortly after this Ryan Johnston shot just over the bar after OLSP failed to clear their box from a dangerous Jamie Kidd corner.

After a tactical change at half-time Fort Hill dominated the opening 10 minutes of the second half and pulled a goal back through captain, Carter Savage, after Brett Conville skilfully dribbled past two defenders before cutting the ball back to Savage who neatly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

OLSP always looked dangerous on the break with their pace, power and skill in attack and effectively killed the game off with 10 minutes to go by scoring their third goal which was a powerful strike into the corner of the net from around 10 yards out.

Fort Hill have goalkeeper Dominic Kelly to thank for the game finishing 3-1 as he pulled off a number of excellent saves throughout the game, particularly late on.
