Carlyle happywith derby victory

INSTITUTE’S assistant manager Paul Carlyle was delighted with their derby win over Limavady United, on Saturday.

Carlyle like many observers at the weekend felt the Waterside men should have won by a bigger margin and that was the only down side, to what was an otherwise good display.

“It was a much needed win, in the first half it was probably the best we’ve played all season. Our movement was good and the dynamic of the front three was pleasing,” conceded Carlyle.

“We’re creating our own problems as we’re not taking our chances.

“A fair score line would probably have been five or six nil. They didn’t create anything but they were launching long balls into the area at the end and long balls can drop anywhere.

“Every game we’ve played this season we’ve caused our own problems; no one else has.

“We’ve had so many chances, but we need to just be a bit more crafty and clinical. It’s maybe down to inexperience but at the end of the day we’re getting into the right areas and we’re creating loads of chances. I don’t care who we play against; we’ll create chances, and if we cut out the silly mistakes we’ll do OK.

“In the second half we took our foot off the gas a bit and a few tired but no matter how it comes, a win’s a win.

“The draw last week was hard to take (against Dergview) but if you can get three points, no matter if you play badly or play well, you would gladly take them so we’re delighted.”

Carlyle is now hoping with the majority of injuries, suspensions and the holiday season now coming to an end, the Drumahoe club will start to get a settled side.

“It’s progress but we haven’t had a settled team. Every week it’s a different team through injuries, suspensions and having people on holidays.

“But now we’re hoping to go on a run and we have a full squad now to select from and we’ll get a more settled team.”

Carlyle was also pleased with Ricky Lee Dougherty and Darren McFadden’s link-up play but he does admit the duo need to get themselves on the score-sheet.

“You can’t criticise the players. Ricky Lee’s got himself into some super positions and (Michael) McCrudden could’ve had a hat-trick himself.

“Darren was unlucky with a few chances but we have to be a bit more crafty and clinical and maybe that’s down to inexperience.

“Darren’s only a young lad so with a bit of experience they’ll come good. They’re getting themselves in the right areas and getting loads of chances.”
