Carson eyes more silverware as he rejoins the Bannsiders

The Ballymoney put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the weekend after two years away from the club.

The deal has been mooted for a large part of the summer following Carson’s release from Glentoran, but two weeks until the big kick off the wide man confirmed his future would be at The Showgrounds. And he is confident he can taste more success here after winning the Irish Cup with the Glens last term.

“I’ve always felt that Coleraine had the potential to do very well, and it has does well over the last few years, hopefully that will continue,” he told Times Sport.

“We play football to win things and give the fans big days out. It’s important that we try and get consistency in the league as soon as possible as the cups don’t come in to play until later on. It was fantastic to win it last year, but that has gone now and the hard work starts now for this season.

“I just want to get in and work hard and get the fitness up to speed. I’m a wee bit behind the rest of the lads but I’ll be putting the graft in to be ready for the start of August.”

Carson has been impressed with the fellow new additions to the squad, which he feels brings a lot of experience. But it’s the progress of the likes of Stephen Lowry and Howard Beverland that has really caught his eye.

“They have really kicked on over the last couple of seasons,” he said. “We were always aware of their talents and they are progressing well, hopefully they continue to work hard and do well.

“Experience is important. Stephen Douglas looks after himself, he’s a fit boy and hopefully it won’t be too long until I’m up to speed with the rest of them.

“Hopefully the good habits we’ve picked up over the years will help push the team on. It’s a team game and we need everyone pushing the same way and I’m sure that will happen.”
