Directors appeal for fan backing

GLENAVON directors have called on the club’s supporters to turn up in numbers across the remaining Danske Bank Premiership fixtures.

The Lurgan Blues meet Lisburn Distillery tomorrow (Saturday) at Mourneview Park before another home game on Tuesday - against Portadown in a Mid-Ulster derby.

Budget restrictions have resulted in a renewed drive by directors for financial backing, with footfall across the club turnstiles an important factor.

“On Tuesday 16th April we welcome our neighbours from Portadown to Mourneview Park,” explained the latest club statement. “We would encourage as many Glenavon supporters as possible to come along to see this derby game.

“Our club sold over 800 tickets for the corresponding fixture at Shamrock Park on Boxing Day and could have sold more.

“If you have not been to a Glenavon game since then, why not come along on the 16th?

“Last week we issued a statement alerting supporters to the financial challenges facing our club at this time and suggesting ways that they may wish to contribute to help improve the situation.

“Since the issue of that statement we have been heartened by the positive reaction from supporters, both at home and abroad and contributions received have been very much appreciated.

“There will be an opportunity to contribute to our fund-raising efforts by buying tickets (£5) for the club’s end-of-season draw, tickets for the weekly lottery (£1) with the jackpot at present standing at over £2,000 and to sign up to the “Mourneview Needs You” initiative.

“In addition, there will be a bucket collection during the half-time interval on Tuesday.

“On the Friday night of next week there will be a quiz night in the Bedeck Suite.

“Why not come along and enjoy the craic and, at the same time, contribute to club funds?

“Remember this is our club and our future.”

Kick-off on Saturday will be 3 o’clock and Tuesday’s game is set start at 7.45.
