It was a local derby with Magherafelt Sky Blues in a league match and all were ready for it as both sides knew it was going to be a tough game.

The Blues had a number of good chances in the opening 10 minutes or so but good defending denied the visitors an opening. Desertmartin soon took the lead.

The game had just got under way again when the Sky Blues sneaked past the defence to make the score 1-1.

Both sides knew that there were more goals for the taking and it was the Deserts’ Stefen Hogshaw who scored a second goal in the 35th minute from a corner.

When the referee gave the Deserts a penelty in the 38th minute it gave Dobson his second goal.

Riding on the crest of a wave, he completed his hat trick with a super strike on the 40th minute.

The second period started with the Sky Blues having the majority of possession and position, but the Desertmartin keeper was on top form and denied the visitors a number of chances.

Both sides fought a tough battle and in the 86th minute Mark Scott grabbed the Deserts’ fifth goal.

A scuffle at the other end of the pitch saw the Sky Blues awarded a second goal just before the end.

This Saturday Desertmartin are at home against Ballynure OB in the O’Gorman Cup.

Sadly the Swifts hadn’t a good day when they travelled to play Ballyclare Comrades Reserves in the Canada Cup.

Once again the Ballyclare side were much too strong for the Swifts and, with a number of the Swifts missing, this was just going to be a very long 90 minutes.

The Swifts tried hard in the first half but the home team were just too strong and the result speaks for itself: 11-0. This week Desertmartin Swifts take on Mallusk away.
