Donacloney's cup run ended by a mauling in Moira

Donacloney Firsts' hard work was all undone as they lost to Moira Albion in the Beckett Cup semi-final on Saturday.

They were beaten 5-1 at Moira Demesne to end a Cup run that had seen them win away to Hillsborough Boys and Newmills

Two defensive errors led to Moira taking a 2-0 lead. Each time the ball should have been cleared, but Moira got their opportunities and took them well. Cloney hadn’t started the game well, while Moira deserved their lead.

Cloney started the second half better and pulled a goal back, Steven Leckey heading in from a free-kick, and looking like Cloney would push on.

However, a third goal for Moira, beating the offside trap to score, was a big blow for Donacloney. Moira made it 4-1 with a penalty, and then hit a fifth as Cloney’s heads dropped and Moira controlled the remainder of the game.

It was a disappointing end to what had been a promising cup run so far.

CLONEY: Curran, Stokes, Watterson, Higgins, Carson, Brown, Croft, Leckey, McElroy, Nelson, Shields. Subs; Malone (Nelson), Acheson (Brown), Brooker (Croft), Knox.
