Institute U14...4

After a week off from competitive football it took ’Stute some time to get back into the groove against a Ballymena side going well in the B Division.

Ballymena grew in confidence and scored midway through the half after a defensive mix up. Lamberton made a couple of first class saves to keep the deficit at one going into the break.

The home side doubled their lead almost immediately after half time, capitalising on some slack marking to pick out the open player in the box who finished well.

’Stute responded by introducing Gamble and recent signing Josh Donnell and it added some immediate impetus to the attack.

There was strong pressure on the Ballymena goal and the short clearance was brought down and well finished by Kinkaid from 18 yards.

Despite dominating from then on it took the visitors until seven minutes from time to level the match from a top-drawer Deighan free kick, a deserved goal for his performance after half-time.

The first half of extra time saw some excellent football from the ’Stute side, Kinkaid scoring a superb chip on his right foot followed by Deighan also doubling his tally with a neat toe-poke.

There were opportunities to make it more but a fair result on the night and a great recovery from being two down.

Institute U11...1

Northend U11...1

Institute U11 met Northend at Ballysally on Saturday and from the whistle both teams gave their all.

Northend had the first shot at goal but this was well saved by R Boyd. A Dougherty pushed her way through to try for a goal but this too was saved by the Northend keeper.

Institute had a better attitude today and worked better as a team but it was Northend who took the lead giving ’Stute keeper Boyd no chance.

C Berry was brought into centre back from her usual left back position and did a great job once she settled and great team work from her and S Temple kept Northend on their toes.

Institute’s mana of the match William Cloete showed great strength and determination on Saturday and a great solo run up the field seen him push the ball just too far in front and the Northend keeper cleared it.

Northend tried another run with some good passing between them but with good team work from C Berry and R Boyd, they denied a second try from Northend.

M Cooke worked well on the left side and his determination showed during the match, saw him pass up to R Gamble and he levelled things.
