First woman to run top flight English football team bound for city

FORMER managing director of Birmingham Football Club - the first woman to run a top flight soccer team in England - and the current Vice Chair of the West Ham United board, Karren Brady, will visit Londonderry next month during the city’s first Enterprise Week.

She will be a keynote speaker at the City Hotel on the opening day of a week long programme of events being run by Derry City Council, targeting local companies keen to boost performance over the coming year.

Ms Brady made her fortune - she’s said to be worth around £82million - through her sale of Birmingham City.

Mayor Kevin Campbell: “I am delighted to welcome her to the city during what is such an exciting year for Derry, and I have no doubt that she will be an inspiration to anyone either starting a new venture or hoping to regenerate their business.

“In turn we hope that Karren will take away the positive message that Derry is a city that is well and truly open for business throughout 2013.”

Enterprise Week will run from Monday March 4-March 8, with a full schedule of talks, workshops, and mentoring sessions aimed at local businesses seeking advice on how to boost business prospects.

It is the highlight of the Business Opportunities Programme currently being rolled out by Derry City Council, part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
