Frew stated: Galgorm Blues came to see me to discuss ongoing issues they were having with the pitch and I’m delighted to say that council officials have responded quickly to these issues.

“Some of the minor adjustments that will be completed in the coming weeks will be to repair holes in the fencing at the river bank to ensure that the clubs do not lose footballs as they float down the
river.

“Gates will be installed so fishermen can gain access to the river bank.

“The most noteworthy work, however, will be the extension to the ball-stop fence by some 12 metres extending it just beyond the trees, which is natural cover and protection of course.

“The cost for this will be approximately £600 and is within our general maintenance budget.

“This work will be carried out by the end of March, weather
permitting.

“I would also commend council staff for meeting with the club to discuss these issues.

“Another big issue for football clubs, all over the borough, is irresponsible dog owners who allow their dogs to foul on the pitch itself.

“I would ask these people to consider the footballers who use the pitch for what it is intended and to think about the young people who should be encouraged to take up football as a sport, in order to keep fit and healthy.

“Having dog foul all over the pitch is wholly undesirable and causes health and safety issues of its own for the players and clubs who play on the pitches,” added Councillor Frew.
