Glenavon gained revenge for their November League Cup defeat by Ards at Mourneview Park on Monday night.

The breakthrough came on 30 minutes, somewhat against the run of play. A corner from Brian McCaul was cleared back to him, he clipped the ball back into the box and a header from defender William Faulkner fell to Kris Linday who rolled the ball onto his right foot and curled a low shot past an unsighted Blayney and into the corner of the net.

Ards were behind for eight minutes and they levelled with a slick finish from Sean Cleary who spotted the keeper off his line and his delightful lob sailed into the net.

Whatever manager Gary Hamilton said to his team at the break certainly worked with the Lurgan Blues ahead within two minutes of the restart.

A free kick from Kyle Neill was flicked on by Marshall, the ball was cleared out to Brian McCaul who drilled it hard and low. Blayney tried to make the save but the ball spun to Guy Bates who made no mistake from a yard out.

The points were sealed in style two minutes from the end when sub David Rainey won the ball in midfield, set Bates clear on the right flank and his cross found Mark Patton who produced a brilliant finish which gave Blayney no chance.
