“It is early but I think everyone is looking forward to it and it will be a gradual process to get the guys back to match fitness, with the first of our pre-season games still a few weeks away yet,” assured the manager.

“We will have our new signings getting to know the guys and there are a number of young players joining up for some training and friendly matches.

“We do have a few irons in the fire as regards bringing in one or two more experienced personnel, but we have a fabulous youth set-up and there is really no point in having that if we don’t take advantage of it.”

Haveron also commented on the Northern Ireland Football League’s plan to make changes to the various leagues.

“I haven’t read the proposals but whatever alterations are made would be very welcome, especially with relation to promotion from Championship 1 to the Premier League.

“It’s not benefitting the game here for so many clubs not to have the ambition to gain a place at the top table. I believe every club should have to have a licence to be able to play in the second tier of football.

“I know there’s a plan, in a situation where if the Championship 1 winners don’t have a licence, that would allow the club with a licence finishing highest in the top six to play the lowest finishing club in the Premier League - and that’s reasonable.

“But I think maybe that should be only applicable if you finish in the top four, or maybe the top three, because it’s necessary that we don’t dilute the quality of the top division.”
