Earlier this afternoon, the Times broke the news that former Northern Ireland international Michael Hughes had stepped down as manager, to be succeeded by 33-year-old Haveron.

In an interview for this week’s Carrick Times, Haveron revealed he will be concentrating on looking after the team, rather than playing. But he will remain on the books.

“My primary focus will be on managing the team,” he said. “I wish to thank the board for putting their faith in me and I am overwhelmed at someone of the stature of Michael Hughes also believing that I am the right man for the job.”

The former Ballymena United skipper said he has yet to decide on the make-up of his backroom team.
