McLaughlin felt the Waterside men fully deserved their extra-time win at Clandeboye Road and he was also really pleased that they got stronger during that extra 20 minute period.

“It was definitely a deserved victory,” he said.

“I don’t think Bangor can have too many complaints with the result, because I felt we dominated the game for the majority of it.

“The first half we were very good, it was as good as we have played all season.

“We kept the ball really well, showed a lot of composure on it and played some nice football and I felt we carried that form into the second half.

“Their goal just before half-time I felt came against the run of play, in fact after taking the lead again in the second half we conceded again from a set-piece, so we are disappointed with our goals against, but it isn’t like us to concede from set-pieces.

“We are usually big and strong but to bounce back in extra-time and show our class was well deserved.”

In extra-time the Drumahoe men really looked the stronger side and that proved their hard work at training is paying off, which also pleased McLaughlin.

“The commitment that our boys have shown all season has been fantastic,” he added.

“Very rarely does anyone of them miss a session and if they do miss they always do something extra themselves.

“Everything Kevin (Deery) or any of us in the back room team ask them to do they all do it.

“We have always encouraged them to stick at the hard training and it will show its worth at the turn of the year and so far that has been the case.

“With the season coming to an end, teams start to pick up injuries and suspension and that’s when you need your squad to step up and I think over the last few weeks especially everyone has stepped up and played well.”
