But goals from Mark Scoltock, Jack King and Cormac Burke seen the Drumahoe side record an important win.

Up against a young Glenavon side Stute struggled early on and Kealan Mulcahy was at full stretch to tip an early effort over the crossbar.

Despite the home side having spells of decent possession they lacked any real threat and fell behind on the half hour mark when Mulcahy was beaten at his near post by a well struck Glenavon free kick.

Just before the break the visitors had a great chance to double their lead when a long ball caught the Stute defence napping but the striker pulled his shot wide of the post.

Institute looked a different side in the second period and within ten minutes they levelled through defender Scoltock who bundled the ball home after Glenavon’s keeper had spilled a Ben Doherty corner.

Midway through the half King popped up at the back post to head Stute into the lead before substitute Aaron Porter teed up Burke who side footed home from eight yards to seal the victory with fifteen minutes remaining.

Burke should really have had a second near the end but he headed wide from close range and youngster Jamie Dunne forced a fingertip save as Stute finished the game strongly.

This was a vital win for Stute in their attempts to keep in touch with the top teams but their challenge will be put on hold this weekend with their game against Cliftonville Olympic postponed due to their opponents’ involvement in the Intermediate Cup.
