Jamison hails 18th’s performance in defeat to Saints

Amateur League, Division 1C: It’s just one goal and one point out of the last 24 for third-bottom 18th Newtownabbey Old Boys, who went down 2-0 at home to Saintfield United at the weekend.

Eighteenth manager Michael Jamison said: “We really needed a win, especially now with Kilroot getting stronger – but that’s as good a performance as I’ve seen from our boys.

“We played all the football whereas Saintfield had five at the back and just hoofed the ball long to their speedy forward.

“We were good until the final third when it slowed up and it was all too narrow. They defended really robustly. They played it well and you can see how they’ve caused the likes of Shorts and Mossley problems. We just couldn’t get round the back of them.”

Both Saints’ goals were similar, and arrived in the opening half.

Newtownabbey’s best moments came when Kyle Blain struck the bar and Rab Butler drove one just wide.
