Kearney ready for crucial Reds test

Oran Kearney knows the pressure will be on as he takes his Coleraine side to the home of the league champions Clifotnville on Saturday.

Two defeats in a week have left the Bannsiders at the wrong end of the table, but Kearney is trying to keep the spotlight off his players ahead of the trip to Solitude.

“It’s only natural the lads were downbeat after Tuesday night, but speaking with them before the Glentoran game I told them that this isn’t the English Premiership or La Liga,” Kearney told Times Sport.

“They do have lives away from the game and they can’t afford to get bogged down in it all.

“We lost three points on Tuesday night for all that happened and another three points were up for grabs today again.

“You can read into it as much as you want and people will turn it into something which it doesn’t need to be turned into.

“For me the minute any of the guys stop enjoying their football then they shouldn’t be doing it.

“Thankfully against the Glens we showed a lot of freedom and looked to be enjoying it and on another day we would have had something to show for our efforts.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this league we’ve saw it countless times down the years. I always try to get through to our players that it’s a battle every week, it doesn’t matter who you play.

“We’ll go to Solitude in a positive mood and be aiming for another performance like at The Oval but obviously looking for the end product.”
