The Drumahoe men, who also had a squad defeat Newtowne 5-4 in Limavady, were always in control against a young Oxford side who only started their pre-season training this week.

Goals from Aaron Rogan (2), Thomas McBride, Darren McFadden, Ben Doherty and Shay Duffy helped Stute secure the victory.

“It was a good workout and what we wanted on Saturday was just an extension to training and we wanted to make it competitive,” he said.

“I appreciate Paul Roddy for getting a team together because we only gave him a week to get a side together, so we really appreciate getting a match, because there’s nothing better than playing a competitive fixture.

“The match compliments the two weeks of training we have had and the players acquitted themselves well on a sticky pitch.”

Kee was also pleased to see five different goalscorers at Wilton Park on Saturday.

“It doesn’t matter what type of game it is, it’s always nice to get a few goalscorers on the scoresheet and that’s what we did.”

“We had a large proportion of the game, particularly in the first half. They came into it a little bit in the second half but in doing that it left a wee bit more space for us and that’s why we scored a few more goals.

“We have good ability on the pitch; we have good energy and it was nice to start the pre-season campaign by keeping a clean sheet and scoring six goals.”

Meanwhile on Monday evening the Waterside men lost 3-0 at Airtricity League Premier Division leaders Dundalk.

With the game still score-less until 74 minutes Stephen Kenny’s side, took the lead through young striker Ciaran O’Connor, before midfielder Georgie Poyton and new signing Donal McDermott netted in the closing stages.

It’s expected the Oriel Park men will face Stute, at Drumahoe, just before their Irish League campaign starts.
