INSTITUTE manager Paul Kee was over the moon that his side produced a workman like display to claim the points at Harland & Wolff Welders, on Saturday.

Kee felt his players did enough and more importantly were able to ‘mix it’ when the Belfast men started to get more physical in the second half.

“This is a tough place to come, there are other teams in this league who have come here and lost,” he admitted.

“The fact that we have beaten them three times is a good achievement because they are a very competitive Championship One team, so it says a lot about the character in our dressing room.

“In fairness to them you always know what you are going to get when you come to the Welders, we told the players that they would probably have to battle for long periods and in fairness that’s what they did.

“They dug in particularly in the second half and I was really pleased with that. Our two goals were superbly worked and well taken, they came at good times in the game and we got a wee break when they missed the penalty.”

The ’Stute gaffer was also pleased by the build up work for both Declan McKeever and Stephen Parkhouse’s goal.

“Parkie held the ball up well and then played a good ball through, McKeever in fairness had quite a bit to do, it helped that he hit it early and it went over the keeper’s head.

“I think the wind, which was behind us in the first half, may have helped a little with that goal.

“Then our second goal, Darren McFadden was brilliant for it, as he made Aaron Walsh’s nothing ball in behind the Welders defence into a great pass because he chased it down, then he checked well and got his shot away, which the keeper saved and we were lucky that the ball fell to Parkie in that situation.

“He normally shows great composure and that’s exactly what he did, he was very cool, side footing the ball into the net, with defenders trying to get back on the line to clear.

“Going in 2-0 up at half-time meant we told the guys at the break that they needed to be ready to head a lot of balls in the second half and they were going to be physical, but as I said we dealt with that and deservedly won the game.”
