Kee may strengthen squad for title run-in

With less than 48 hours remaining before the January transfer window closes, Institute boss Paul Kee admits he may make one more signing.

The Drumahoe club, who have added the likes of Stephen O’Flynn, Dean and Stephen Curry this month, are on the look out for a right back.

That position has been a problem all season after Sean Roddy picked up a serious knee injury during pre-season with the likes of Stephen O’Donnell, Andy Devlin and Graham Crown all slotting in at some stage this campaign.

“We are probably looking to get a player in for the right-back position,” stated Kee.

“I know whoever we have played in this year has done well for us, but competition for places is something which I want and right-back seems to be a position where that isn’t the case.”

The ’Stute gaffer is also bitterly disappointed by Roddy’s lack of work off the field as he attempts to return from his knee injury.

“Sean doesn’t look like he’s going to be anywhere near it this season and he hasn’t really done enough to convince us that he’s going to be back any time soon.”

While Crown has been solid Kee wants to ensure he has cover in nearly every position and he’s concerned about Crown’s long standing knee problem which he has been carrying all season.

“Right back has been a bit of a problem all season, although Crowner in fairness against Larne was excellent,” Kee added.

“He nearly scored one time but his touch was a bit heavy and he was involved in our best goal that day laying it off to (Aaron) Walsh to cross and he was in an advanced position so thats good and he’s getting a wee bit more comfortable further up the pitch.

“He’s also probably moving a wee bit better as his knee injury isn’t hindering him at the minute, but because of that injury I’m worried if it returns then right-back could be a bit of a problem for the remainder of the season.”

Although Kee has added three new faces to the squad, midfielder Sean Reilly will be leaving the club in a few weeks time.

“At the minute I can’t see anything changing, but you never rule anything out, because we have a couple of positions under review.

“Because Sean is going back to America at the start of next month, I might look to strengthen things.”

This weekend, ’Stute’s Coca/Cola Intermediate Cup tie against Crumlin Star may take place after this Saturday’s postponement (KO 2pm). Darren McFadden could return from his shin injury.
