Knockbreda 1 Larne 0

Larne fell to their second successive defeat on Saturday when they went down 1-0 at Knockbreda in a poor game with few clear-cut chances.

Manager Graham McConnell thought his side deserved something from the game. “Last week we didn’t deserve anything but today it was different and I still believe we are a better team than Knockbreda,” he said.

Asked what was missing, he added: “A goal or two, even when we went behind I still thought we were the better side. We finished strongly and I am happy with the way we played.”

There was little to lift the supporters in the opening half-hour as both sides struggled to open up the opposition.

Paul Maguire had a close-range header cleared for a corner then Miguel Chines saw his free-kick delfected onto the cross bar four minutes before the break.

The only goal came two minutes after the restart. A Larne attack broke down on the right allowing Chines to break forward and tee up the ball for James Wright to score.

The woodwork again came to Larne’s rescue on 55 minutes, this time an Andrew Dickson shot cannoned off the crossbar.

Larne then upped the pace in the final 15 minutes, but they couldn’t find the vital touch when it mattered.

Larne: Keenan, Scott (McConnell 76), McShane, Black, Wharry, Irvine, King, N. McAllister, Maguire, McAuley (Picking 83), J. McAllister (McClean 50) Unused subs: McNamee, Gargan.
