Larne boss may add to his squad

One of the goalkeepers would, admittedly, have to play outfield, but Davy McAlinden could play a new faces versus the old stock in-house match. And the manager says he might still add to his considerable squad.

The former Cliftonville player has certainly been busy in the transfer market, with 11 players signed to date.

But, as spectators at last night’s match against Newington will have noticed, the Larne manager will be playing guest players in this series of friendly fixtures.

“There are a number of people lined up to participate in these matches, so they can have a look at us and we can run the rule over them,” explained McAlinden.

“I feel the squad is very good and I would quite happily go into the season with plenty of confidence that it is strong enough to do the club justice. But nobody is ever so satisfied that they wouldn’t add quality players if they become available.

“And that’s quite simply what this is all about. We won’t, not least because of budgetary restrictions, be signing anybody else unless we believe they can add quality.

“Training has been great so far and we are working very hard towards hitting the ground running when the league starts next month. But we have had a few injuries, Darren McNamee now in need of a hernia operation and Jamie Mitchell having broken his wrist. Ciaran Murray has taken a knock, while Paul Maguire is on holiday and Robbie White got married and is off on honeymoon.”

This Saturday Larne welcome Albert Foundry to Inver Park before the visit of Queen’s on Tuesday evening.
