The game is part of the deal which saw Robbie McDaid make his move to Elland Road at the end of the season. Confirmation of the date came on Wednesday and is great news for the Lurgan Blues.

“We are delighted to get confirmation of the date,” said Glenavon chairman Adrian Teer.

“It will be an all-ticket match and details of price and when they go on sale will follow soon.

“It’s going to be a great spectacle and a chance for Leeds United fans from north and south to come and see their team over here. This is their only game in Ireland and we have an agreement that at least 10 first team players will be in the squad.”

With Leeds United going through a turbulent period Glenavon will be relieved to hear news from Leeds that the game is on.

Last Friday night manager Brian McDermott agreed to leave the club by mutual consent and the players were recalled from their holidays to meet owner Massimo Cellino on Monday.

Glenavon’s first two friendly matches, will be at Crumlin United on Tuesday, June 24 and Knockbreda on Saturday, June 28.

“We wanted a couple of games before our European ties on July 3 and 10,” said boss Gary Hamilton. “We have had requests for games from 15 clubs and we will work out the rest of our programme once the draw is made. We hope to fit in another game the night after our match at Crumlin.”

The William Walker Supporters Club AGM will be held at the clubrooms on Friday, June 27 at 8.00pm.
