Ballymacash Rangers

Rangers dumped out of Cup

After last week’s heroic performance and win against Lisburn Rangers in the Steel and Sons Cup, Ballymacash Rangers were brought back down to earth with a bump when they were dumped out of the ‘Mid-Ulster Leagues’ Marshall Cup by a strong Camlough Rovers team, going out on the wrong side of a five goal hammering.

Camlough had previously beaten and knocked out the locals in the 1st round of an earlier Premier Cup tie, so not only had ‘the Cash’ good form going into the game (after last weeks result), but they also should have had the added incentive of revenge, but unfortunately there was none to be had, on a day they will want to forget.

Rangers were poor right from the start as some sloppy defending, when playing out from the back, allowed the visiting teams striker to nip in and score from close range with barely five minutes on the clock.

Ballymacash fell two goals behind with half-an-hour gone, when two Camlough players found themselves un-challenged at the back post after a corner kick, and one of them got the touch to send the ball into the net.

Worse was to come for Rangers before halftime as the away side were awarded a penalty, which was neatly put away to send Rangers into the break facing a three goal deficit.

Rangers did up the tempo in the second half to try and claw their way back into the game and they did test the away goal on the rare occasion but it was sloppy play from the defence again which led to the locals going four goals behind.

Ballymacash, to be fair, still had the majority of possession at this stage, and from this they were rewarded with a goal when K.Campbell put the ball in the net to make it 4-1 with some 25 minutes still left to play. This jilted the Camlough side for the 1st time on the day. So much so that they gave away a penalty kick to the locals some minutes after, who unfortunately failed to take advantage, the spot-kick striking the post before being cleared.

Wth Rangers still pushing forward, another defensive lapse at the back gifted the Camlough side a fifth goal.

Ballymacash will know they cannot afford many more performances like this, if they wish to be in the hunt for silverware this season and especially next Saturday, when they travel to play Championship 1 side, Larne, in the 3rd round of the Steel and Sons Cup. A supporters bus will leave the Bluebell next Saturday morning (11.30), to go to Larne to cheer on the team, returning 6.30pm, priced at £5 per head. Everyone welcome.

Lisburn Youth

Under 12’s

Lisburn Youth Under 12’s started off their season with a great performance against a well set out and determined Oxford Sunnyside team. Tyler Craig made no mistake from close range to open the scoring. The talking point of the game came with a tremendous half volley long range shot from Callum Burns, who found the top left hand corner to make it 2-0. Oxford Sunnyside pulled a goal back with a well executed finish to make it an exciting end to end finish to the game. Lisburn Youth held on for the win to reward a fantastic team performance.

Under 13’s

The U13’s started their campaign with a resounding victory over North End FC at Wallace Park. With a couple of key players missing from the squad the boys were able to put in a performance that puts them in confident mood going into the mid week game against local rivals Hillsborough Boys on Wednesday. Despite conceding two sloppy goals before the half time break, Lisburn were still ahead quite comfortably. By the end of the game Lisburn were still keeping their discipline, shape and movement extremely well and never let the ball stop moving resulting in some terrific goals being scored. Goals on the day were Ross Hunter (8), David Faulkner (5), Bailey McKeown (2), Justin Devlin (2), Tyler Bain, Nathan Millar, Bailey Finlay, and a debut goal for Ethan Taylor.

Under 14’s

Good all round performance from the whole team. Lisburn knocked the ball around all over the park and their finishing was clinical at times. Credit must go to Oxford Colts who never stopped running and battled to the end. Goalscorers for Lisburn were Tomas Skillen 2, Curtis Ross, James Webb, Cory Richards, Lewis Parker and Darren Connolly.

Under 15’s

It was last season’s league champions versus last season’s runners up in the opening game of the U15 season at Barbour and the young lions of Lisburn came out on top.

The Orange and Black took an early lead when Lorcan McIlroy pounced on a loose ball and side footed it into the corner of the net. Lisburn went further ahead when Conall Smyth worked a short corner from the right and swung the ball in for Kyle Patton to head home. McIlroy made it three when Ross Hull beautifully carved open the Windmill defence with an outside of the right foot pass and the number 9 gave the keeper no chance.

Ross Hull went close and he was involved in the fourth after good work from Caoelain Young, Hull picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fed Patton to score his second.

Windmill, though, started to get some belief and scored the next goal. A few minutes later it was 4-2 when the referee ruled that there was a foul in the box. The resulting penalty was almost saved by Ryan Dowling.

It was Lisburn who got the all important next goal to extinguish Windmill hopes. Ross Hull was played in behind the Windmill defence and he smashed the ball into the top of the net above the keeper. Paul Hughes finished the game off when Rhys Kelly’s free kick came back off the bar, Hughes followed the ball in and had a bit to do before he could stick it in the net.

Under 16’s

Lisburn Youth U16’s came from a goal down at half time before Caoihan Hughes equalised from 18 yards and then a Regan McCanny header from a great cross put Lisburn 2-1 ahead.

Midway drew level with 10 minutes to go had numerous chances to score late on but the Orange and Black held out for a draw.
