McCashin and Burrows sign
21-year-old McCashin spent three years in full-time football with Nottingham Forest but was released in 2010 and after searching for another chance at professional football at the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain, signed for Lisburn Distillery in January but has now opted to join Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon.
The Blues’ boss says that the former Northern Ireland U19 and U21 international comes with a glowing reference from another former international.

Hide Ad“Sean’s signed on a one year deal. It’s good to get him in because he comes highly recommended from Stephen Robinson,” said the gaffer.
“He was at Nottingham Forest and was released but he then went for trials at the Glenn Hoddle Academy.
“From there, Stephen signs players and sells them on to clubs. Sean made it through from 3-4000 players down to the last 16 so he has a good pedigree.
“His main position is at centre-half but he also played at right-back and centre-mid for Forest’s reserves. He has a good background.

Hide Ad“He was thinking of quitting last summer but he has got his hunger back now and Stephen thinks that if he gets a good season behind him in the Irish League, he could go back across the water. That’s coming from a former international so you have to take heed of what he says.
“He’s tall, pacey and very comfortable on the ball. He’s young as well so it’s players like him that we want at the club.”
McCashin will line-up next season alongside Matty Burrows after the forward agreed a new contract at the club. Burrows, of course, joined from Glentoran in January and went on to score three goals in nine appearances. Hamilton has, therefore, looked to get his former Glentoran team-mate back on board after being impressed with his performances.
“Matty’s signed on a one-year deal,” he said. “He was unfortunate to break his arm when he did but he can score goals. The other side of his game has been questioned in the past but since he came to Glenavon, the work-rate and effort was there. He worked his socks off and he will always score goals as well.”
