McCloskey in fantasy land!

No stranger to real football management after many successful seasons with Riverside Athletic, local man Alan McCloskey has shown that in the world of Fantasy Football he also knows how to put together a winning team.

Alan claimed Ballymoney’s first ever fantasy league title, seeing off his rivals to take the Cowtown Serie Eh? crown.

“I’d been tipped off about Alan at the start of the season as one of the favourites” said Paul McFeeley former Ballymoney man now living in England, who set up the league as a way of keeping in touch with football fans and friends in the Ballymoney area and enjoying a bit of craic.

“Alan certainly was a worthy winner” said Paul.

“He was within touching distance of the top for most of the season, and when he took over the number one spot on the run in, played a good tactical game and proved very difficult to catch.

“The league proved a huge success, with the help of the Ballymoney Times we managed to have sixty-eight teams in total, and hopefully next season a few more fantasy football managers will take up the challenge.

“It was a very competitive league, some managers take the game more seriously than others and we had quite a few who had won fantasy leagues from their places of work etc. so the idea was to get a lot of those involved and find Ballymoney’s top fantasy manager.

“We also had the site’s forum which many of us used to have some football related banter or just general craic which was good.

“Special mention also must go to Joanne Black the league’s only female manager who finished in a creditable 29th place, and above a few well known local football students of the game.

“I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part and for anone interested in joining next season, keep an eye on the Ballymoney Times where we will have the details printed towards the start of the new season.”
