McCormick ‘not bothered’ by betting allegation

THE third player who has been accused of placing a bet on his team’s game against Dergview, Laurence McCormick, strongly denies making a bet.

The goalkeeper has been in fantastic form this season with many saying he is playing as well as he had ever done.

“I was supposed to go to the meeting with the Limavady board but I couldn’t make it across last Saturday,” he said.

“I know there are three of us who have been accused but I haven’t even spoken to either of the other two.

“One thing I am sure about however is the fact that I didn’t place a bet on our game against Dergview.

“In fact I didn’t place any bets that weekend at all and I know from my point of view I’m a winner and I want to win every game we play. To be honest I’m not that bothered; why should I be bothered about something that I know I didn’t do?”

McCormick has been in excellent form this season.

He said: “I’m not boasting but I think that that I have been having a storming season between the posts for Limavady. We have done well over the course of the season so far despite not having the resources other clubs have.

“To be honest after last Wednesday night’s loss I felt like packing it in because we lost the game. That’s how much it means to me. We may carry a few passengers in the team but I’m certainly not one of them.”

“We played a couple of days after winning a couple final so if the performance dropped then you could expect that.

“We could have won that game with a bit more luck.

“These things look bad on the club unfortunately and probably look even worse on the players.

“In the Dergview game nearly everyone in the North West knew we were under-strength so maybe the bookies should do a bit more research!”

McCormick is another who admits that he didn’t really know what the IFA regulations were for betting on the Irish League.

“To be totally honest I’m not aware of any of the IFA regulations because they have never been made aware to us.

“I know there are betting rules in the English Premier League because that’s professional where we are all amateur.

“I didn’t even know what the odds were in the game but if Dergview were a good price then that was a mistake as they were above us in the league.

“It’s seems to be the bookmakers who are pushing this but all they are doing are hitting a club who are struggling and making things worse for them.

“The bottom line is we played our strongest team available that, played OK and I categorically deny placing any bets,” he stressed.
