Teenage striker Jamie McGonigle was the hero as he scored in either half to seal a comfortable victory for Oran Kearney’s men.

The home side created the first opening with only six minutes gone as David Ogilby’s clearance inadvertently played in McGonigle, but his snapshot was saved by Marty Gallagher.

The keeper was called into action again four minutes later as Ruairi Harkin picked out the unmarked Ian Parkhill at the back post, he didn’t get enough power on his header though and Gallagher scooped it up with ease.

The deadlock was finally broke on 15 minutes as Harkin latched on to a mistake by a mistake in the visitors’ defence before teeing up Parkhill to smash in his tenth of the season.

Stute hit back and found themselves on level terms on 22 minutes as Jamie Dunn’s looping header beat Andy Findlay.

Parity lasted only four minutes as the Bannsiders got their noses back in front again. Clever play from Neil McCafferty and Darren McCauley saw the latter cut the ball back for young striker McGonigle, who swivelled and fired past Gallagher.

McGonigle went close again on 35 minutes as he picked up another loose ball, but he failed to hit the target this time around.

The teenage striker made amends on 57 minutes as he grabbed his second of the game. Neil McCafferty robbed Aaron Walsh before releasing McGonigle and he showed calmness beyond his years to outpace the Stute defence and slot past Gallagher.

The visitors almost pulled a goal back on 73 minutes as that man Dunn struck the crossbar with a close range effort.
