Michael at the double as Dromore U15s edge out Ards

A double from Michael McAvitt added to Odhran Crozier’s strike to give Dromore Under 15s a narrow 3-2 victory in a tense clash with Ards.

Dromore were forced to make a few changes to the line up with a number of players unavailable. Alan Shelsher found himself in goal and Isaac Black moved to centre-back and Rowan Taylor dropping into left back.

Within the opening minutes, disaster struck for the hosts when Ards opened the scoring when the Dromore defence failed to deal with a free kick.

It took the U15s 10 minutes to settle into the game and the midfield of Henry Thomas, Jack Moore, Sam Stewart and Dylan Hickey imposed their authority.

Michael McAvitt got the equaliser from close range after a melee in the Ards goalmouth.

Further goals were added by Odhran Crozier and a second from Michael McAvitt as Dromore asserted their dominance.

Ards, however, gave the U15s a fright when they scored a second and set up a nervy finish to the game. An injury to Dylan Hickey found him swapping positions and going into nets for the last quarter of the game and he pulled off a couple of good saves to keep Ards from equalising.

An ill-tempered finish saw an Ards defender sent off for violent conduct and the U15s saw the game out to be worthy winners and remain in a solid second position in the league.

The MOTM award went to Michael McAvitt not only for his two goals but he was instrumental in most of the U15s attacking play.

Next week, Dromore U15s face North Belfast at Boucher Road at 10am.
